1) We've talked a lot about social and economic class. What does this mean to you on a personal level: how would you describe your class background, or your class as you were growing up? Rich? Poor? Working class? Middle class? What does the term you chose mean to you? How did the adults around you feel about class? Do you think there is such a thing as "working class" or "middle class" values? Have your values and/or political beliefs been shaped by class?

Personally i believe just like race, social and economic class was created so that people can discriminate against one another. Since my mother was a single mother raising 3 kids on her own i cant say we had alot of money but my mother did make enough money so that we had a hot meal every night and a decent house to live in. To me because i seen people live in worse conditions than we did and have less money than us, i always consider my family to be in the middle class which just means we aren't rich nor were we poor. Of course everyone always wants more. so although my fam was happy with the money they made they always wish they were rich. No i don't think that there is a such thing as working or middle class values i just believe that everyone has and sets there own personal values.

  1. Interesting reflections - who do you think invented social class? How are different classes discriminated against?

  2. i think social class was invented by the government which made it easy for people to discriminate against each other.

the main discrimination against different classes to me are exclusionary zoning. upper class people have a right to say they dont want apartment complexes built in their neighborhoods

  3. a person's class depends on how you rate yourself. rich or poor, we are all equal.
